When To Use Solar Electric Fences

December 28th, 2011 by admin

There are a number of people who will seek privacy around their homes and property. When you live in a neighborhood than it is customary to put up a wooden or metal fence that designates your property from others. However, when you have a farm and you tend to livestock or you have a large mass of crops than you need to make sure that you keep large animals or pesky people away.

In order to do this you should think about using a solar electric fence. When we think about an electric fence we think of touching something that is going to cause our hearts to skip a beat and to blow out our hair. While these are strong and will give us quite a shock it is not liable to do any real harm. Although it will scare us when we do not expect anything too happen.

These are powered by the sun and therefore will help to save you money in your electric bill each month. You will have the ability to set up the power of the shock that it will send through. With smaller animals it does not need to be as high – but the large animals are thicker skinned and need more incentive to stay away.

Make sure that you do a good deal of research and understand how to buy solar electric fences that are going to work for you. You need to make sure that you get something that is easy to set up and will work for the type of property that you are trying to safe guard.

Boost Your Memory with Brain Games

December 21st, 2011 by admin

Games, memory games, brain teasers, brain games, math games, math, education, family, children, learning, numbers

One of the most often reported concerns of aging is that of memory loss. Many people believe that it is inevitable that their memories will begin to slip away and fail to form as they get older. There are some genetic factors to imply that certain families might have a stronger chance of creating members with less memory retention in their later years than others but the truth is that there are things that a person can do to strengthen their brain power and increase their chances of continued memory making and retention well into their later years.

Every segment of the brain has a specific function and effect on the body. Meditation and yoga help to boost the function of the segment of the brain that responds to and controls external and internal stressors which is why they are so highly recommended for those with anger and anxiety issues. When viewed through certain scans the brain will should activity in different areas when a person is remembering something or when they are making up a story, in essence showing that memories are stored in one part of the brain while the imagination resides elsewhere. In order to boost the brain’s ability to make and recall memories the area of that is responsible for memories needs to be stimulated, or worked out, on a regular basis.

As with any other type of exercise the memory segment of the brain will become stronger the longer it is worked with. Studies showed that individuals participating in brain games on a regular basis over a period of two years showed mild improvement in memory recall but after five years there was a significant increase in memory retention. This proves that the best results of increased memory function are to be had with a long term brain game participation plan. It is recommended that brain games be introduced as early in life as possible in order to boost and strengthen the brain’s functionality and keep it healthy and strong well into the aging process. Brain games for children and teenagers are effective in boosting self-confidence and teaching problem solving skills. Brain games are becoming more and more prevalent in the education system and yearly curriculum of most schools because of the high success rates these games have in regard to establishing a love of learning within children and their ability to aid in assessing a child’s strengths and weaknesses so that parents and teachers can address the needs of a child in a specific manner.

Can You “Know” Something That Is Wrong?, by Phin Upham

December 18th, 2011 by admin

by Phin Upham

Mr. Biggs, the owner of a vast industrial empire, wants to have the fastest computer in the world for his company.  In order to accomplish this, he hires the best computer people to build him his computer.  They labor and labor until finally they create a 100 KB HD, 66 RAM, modified Cray computer which they tell him (and show him evidence that) it is the fastest computer ever built (t).  Mr. Biggs trusts these people (p) and he generates from their words the belief that he has been told by people that have never before lied to him that his company has the fastest computer in the world (f).  From this belief (f) he in turn generates the belief that his company has the fastest computer in the world (w).  Unbenounced to Mr. Biggs there is an even faster computer o the planet.  Mr. Smalls, who happens to work in accounting in Mr. Biggs’ company, has built in his office an even faster computer (z).

This Gettier type case demonstrates that there is more to knowledge than justified true belief.  Mr. Biggs believes that his company has the fastest computer in the world (f), and he is justified in this belief because he the computer experts told him it was the fastest (t), and they were always trustworthy in the past (p).  Lastly, the belief is true because of Mr. Smalls’ computer (z).  But I would not say that Mr. Biggs knows that (w).  The major impediment to his knowledge is that although (w) is true, it is only true coincidentally.   What attribute do (must?) all the Gettier type cases have in common?  It every case a belief is generated by one set of apparently true but ultimately false set of facts, then the belief is generalized (defocused).  Then a new fact that is contained under the newly generalized/expanded belief makes the general belief true.  The justification and the belief still come from the original now-falsified fact.

Since an infallibilist about knowledge would only know things on the basis of infallible evidence, and the evidence in the Gettier cases is necessarily fallible, the Gettier cases cannot get off the ground.  The infallibilist is immune to this sort of example.  An infallibilist is immune to making mistakes and beliefs that the infallibilist holds cannot be false..  The belief that (z) need not be true, it is true through luck alone.  Thus an infallibilist would never hold this belief.  The evidence of the computer experts was wrong.  Thus an infallibilist would never use this evidence.

A Way for Students to Get a Job in Health Care

December 13th, 2011 by admin

Many young and older adults as well as students are wondering what they should have a career in. This past recession has caused a lot of job loss in many different fields including construction and financing, two fields where very few thought there would be big job cuts. As a result, many are looking for an area where there will be more job stability into the future. One of those areas is nursing. That is why many are looking into options to Take Up A Nursing Degree Online in order to enter the field.

To become a nurse, it is necessary to graduate with a college degree in nursing. In addition, it is required to take and pass a nursing exam called the NCLEX-RN. The exam is given by the state board of nursing. It does not matter what level the college degree is as long as it is accredited. That is why many people decide to get an Associates Degree in Nursing since they can graduate within two to three years. Students are highly advised to finish all general education requirements along with nursing prerequisite courses prior to the actual entry into the major to shorten the time to graduation as much as possible.

Another option is the BSN degree where students will need four to five years in order to graduate. The RN license is the same as the one give to those with an associates degree. However, there is an important advantage that makes the extra two years of schooling worth it. More places such as hospitals, medical centers, and other health provider are requiring a bachelor’s degree in order to get any nursing job, including those that are entry level. That means those who spend the extra years in school and pay the extra cost will have better job prospects than those who graduated from a two year school.

No matter what college degree path is chosen to get the RN license, this is a career where patient contact is required, which means it is a very difficult job to outsource to a foreign country. That’s why students looking for career stability might want to look into nursing and other health care jobs with patient contact.

Forest Fire Investing, by Phin Upham

December 10th, 2011 by admin

Investing, Recession, GlobalWhich tree will grow to be the tallest? A cautionary tale for investors by Phineas Upham .

When looking at investing from a global perspective, sometimes it helps to see the forest rather than the trees. It is necessary to blend together different lenses to see what others are not seeing. If, for example, there were a competition to see what experts could predict what the tallest tree in a forest was in 10 years what would different experts say? A botanist, an expert on tree species, might choose the fastest growing one. An immunologist, an expert on tree disease, might see black rot in the forest and choose the tree that was resistant to it. A pedologist, an expert on soil might choose the tree rooted in the most fertile ground. But they might all be wrong. A layman who stepped back and saw the dry brush might consider for a moment the possibility of a forest fire and choose the little birch tree alone in the field – the only tree that would survive. Let us consider for a moment what happens if this crisis continues and something breaks on a global scale, what is the most likely equivalent of a global forest fire?

The depth of the global recession, perhaps even depression, and the structural dependency on globalization makes it possible that “this too shall NOT pass” before some very ugly adjustments are made and the piper is paid. The great depression ended with WWII – indeed the US was lifted out not by FDR but by the war effort which used every factory, employed every man (and many women) and drove the economy with a feverish intensity. If that crisis was ended by a world war could this one too?

There are several obvious hotspots right now to consider: Israel seems to be increasingly at odds with a near-nuclear Iran. What will the cascade of responses to this be? There is discontent in the former soviet and Baltic states as their currencies are under increasing pressure, indeed even Moscow has seen violent protest of quasi-authoritarian rule. China has had escalating “protests” in recent years, and these have gained a ferocious intensity recently with economic slowdown. While the Communist government hides the severity of the statistics, those that know say the problems are significant. The crackdown on the Falun Gong a few years ago and the tanks in Tienanmen Square may soon seem benign as the grand bargain between peasants and the government (you make us rich, you can have power) is tested.

One area of deep concern for such a global “fires” are totalitarian countries that are oil exporters who have high marginal costs. In this logic the Middle East is fine, since their marginal cost of oil is, for example $12 in the (depleting) elephant fields of Saudi Arabia. Similarly wealthy nations like Canada with its Oil Sands will be fine despite their $35 dollar a barrel cost of extraction. The three most troubling examples are Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. Their marginal cost to produce oil are close to $100 and the global spot price hovers there but only precariously.

Virtue, the Constitution, and the Common Good

December 10th, 2011 by admin

Democracy, Government, Constitution, Hamilton, Madison, Phin UphamHamilton and Madison believed that wisely crafted institutions can supply what virtue cannot.

by Phin Upham

James Madison and Alexander Hamilton – founding fathers and the primary authors of the Federalist Papers – shared some basic assumptions about human nature, about the human condition, and about virtue and its unreliability, and these assumptions informed their views of the appropriate institutional structure of government. The Constitution reflects their beliefs in numerous ways – from the division of powers among many branches to limits upon the conduct, roles, to the number of people in the legislative branch. Moreover, the structure of government is instrumental to people’s interactions economically and politically both vis a vis one another and vis a vis the government. What are the presuppositions of the framers of the Constitution regarding human nature, the human condition and virtue as they bear on government? The assumptions of these two men differed somewhat, and these differences also provide interesting insights. Endeavoring to understand these beliefs – their differences and their consequences – I will refer to the work of Madison and Hamilton in the Federalist Papers and their private correspondences as well as some modern work in Game Theory and Firm Structure Theory for theoretical analysis. Hamilton and Madison saw that sometimes in order to achieve a goal one must take unexpected and counter intuitive routes. Sometimes the most direct route is unstable, unproductive, unfeasible, or unreliable. Such is the case, they believed, when structuring a government. When in a governmental position, or when making political decisions it would seem to be ideal if people made decisions in keeping with what they know to be virtuous. The virtuous decision in such cases is to make a decision to promote the public good. But usually people are self-interested, and invariably information is incomplete. Information that is incomplete and unevenly distributed* renders decisions regarding the common good particularly poor. And both of the founding fathers recognized that, anyhow, virtue cannot be depended upon to motivate decisions considering that the interests of each man will necessarily be at odds with his fellow man. Thus Madison and Hamilton structured the institutions of government such that “avarice might guard upon [man’s] avarice” (Hamilton, Federalist Papers. 72) and such that one’s baser or more personal attributes worked toward the public good. In an unexpected and counterintuitive route, they crafted political institutions that enlist those qualities most dependable and often most troublesome in man to spontaneously maximize public good – a goal that altruistic virtues cannot be counted upon to achieve. This profound understanding of human nature and the necessarily divided interests of individuals allowed Madison and Hamilton to help structure a governmental system that has profoundly changed the world. Rather than disregarding fundamental – though not necessarily attractive – aspects of human nature, they chose to employ them – and that made all the difference.

Madison and Hamilton assumed that human nature was essentially unchangeable. They assumed that the human condition was one in which factions and divergent interests were essential. Further they assumed that people were often, if not always, inclined to behave in their rational best interest. Given these assumptions they helped structure the constitution to incorporate those aspects of human nature that could be depended upon – ambition, avarice, pride, self-interest. These attributes, if properly channeled, resulted in the best interests of the people, even though the best interests of the people were not always or often the intended result. Thus the appropriate structuring of institutions led indirectly, even inadvertently, to what virtue could not lead to directly. That this structure works can be seen around us today and whether this structure is best or paerado optimal is another question.

LEED Certification Process Explained

December 4th, 2011 by admin

The days of a green economy are here. To get ahead, most businesses are realizing that it’s important to reduce their carbon footprint and maximize their efficiency in order to compete. It doesn’t matter if you own your own business or if you want to work for someone else, completing the LEED certification process will give you the knowledge you need to lessen the environmental impact of industry on today’s world.

The LEED certification process is not complicated. The first step of the accreditation process is to become an LEED Green Associate. This is accomplished by taking an Associate program covering the basics of sustainability and environmental efficiency either in the classroom or online. When the exit examination is passed, the student becomes a Certified Green Associate. At this point, the student may register for the second step in the LEED certification process, which is to become a LEED Accredited Professional. When completing the LEED certification process, it is required to participate in and complete an LEED approved project. Depending on the school chosen to obtain certification from, some offer online projects that will allow the paperwork for the project to be completed from your home while fulfilling the requirements of the program.

The final decision that has to be made to complete the LEED certification process is deciding witch specialty to study. Some of the most popular are New Building Construction or Existing Building Operation and Maintenance. In LEED Building Design and Construction, the focus is on constructing and designing high performance, durable and environmentally sound commercial, institutional or high rise residential buildings. The LEED Building Operations and Management specialty focuses on the operations and maintenance of existing buildings the use sustainable practices to reduce their environmental impact. There are many other specialties such as LEED Homes, and LEED Neighborhoods but most focus is on the two above mentioned specialties.

Working through the LEED certification process is a timely procedure but a worthwhile one. It takes determination to work through the projects and pass the examinations but when the LEED certification is obtained it will be an asset that will put you head and shoulders above another employee or business owner.

Get help as per your version of windows.

December 3rd, 2011 by admin

Microsoft company is one of the companies in the entire world that is offering continuous help to its customers after they have purchased products from the company. With Microsoft, the number of products that you purchase is not used to determine the kind of help you can get or the number of times you can seek for support anyone can seek help with any product provided that the product is from the company. However, there is something you need to know before you can start enjoying these free services from your provider. Each product from Microsoft comes with the date in which it was released for use. There are so many versions of the same product. Since the company is dealing with so many customers each day, it has decided to ease the work of its customer supports as well as to improve the quality of their services for the benefit of the clients. If you are looking for microsoft outlook 2007 help for instance, it is because you have the windows version 2007, not any other year. The company is no longer dealing with general inquiries that were provided by microsoft outlook help supports to users of outlook. These days, you have to specify the version of your computer programs in order to be served well, efficiently and faster. It is also good to know that users of different versions of windows can change from one version to the most recent one, which is better than the previous ones, by upgrading their computer softwares. There is so much to enjoy from Microsoft if you are a customer to the company, and this is just one of the benefits.

The end of the road for ignorance

December 2nd, 2011 by admin

It’s not the first time that I have been forced to do something that I don’t want to. Actually, it started way back when I was too trusting of people. In my email account I received a message telling me how I had just won myself a couple of dollars and in my excitement, I did not realize that it was a lie. I was asked to verify my email address and password so that they could send the prize money to me. This I did promptly only to find out later that it was all a hoax. By that time, there was no going back. The only remedy I had was in changing my password to avoid the hackers from ever using my account again. By that time it was too late. Some people had even written me an email complaining that I was trying to defraud others on the net. There was no way that I could be able to explain to them that I was innocent of everything that was happening. Some even insulted me not knowing that I was on the receiving end of con artists. It was a bitter experience that I wanted to rub from my mind therefore shutting down all my other accounts. The Tiscali account was the last one to go even though it gave me good broadband service. Now I can only hope that the nightmare will not return now that I am back. I take more care in everything I do knowing that there is nothing like a second chance to improve the things that went wrong. Actually it has made me more cautious than ever.
