Getting a visa for English courses in the United States

July 8th, 2010 by admin

This article talks about how to get a student visa to take English courses in USA. USA is the most popular destination for international students who want to improve their English skills as quickly as possible. English courses are offered in many different cities throughout the country, but the most popular ones are English courses in New York and English courses in Boston.

However, international students should know that just enrolling and getting accepted into an English language school in the United States does not guarantee that you will get a visa to enter the country. And obtaining a visa only allows you to arrive in the USA. A visa does not guarantee that an immigration officer at the border will allow you to enter the country.

If you are applying for a US visa for the first time, you will have schedule an appointment and then go to an American embassy or consulate in your home country. You will need to bring an I-20, a government form sent to you by your English language school that shows you have been accepted into an English course.

In addition to this form, you will also need bank statements to prove that you have enough funds to pay for your living expenses during your English course in USA. Also, be prepared to provide evidence that you will return to your home country after your studies end. Examples of this evidence include titles of properties that you own and a letter from employer stating that you have a job to come back to.

The cost of a US visa application is around $200. You should apply for your US visa as soon as you have been accepted to an English language school in the USA. The processing time can be quite long, as the US government needs time to perform a background investigation. Unfortunately, you cannot receive a visa more 120 days before the start date of your English course. And if you are coming as a student for the first time, you cannot enter the country more than 30 days before classes begin.
