Online Graduate Degrees

June 3rd, 2010 by admin

Online graduate degrees offer a great way to get a masters degree without putting your career on hold for having to move. They’re a number of different programs offered by a variety of different schools. As should be expected there is a wide range of diversity and academic rigor required by various programs. Not all schools are created equal academically and there is no place this is truer than when it comes to online masters degrees. The growth of a large number of for-profit educational institutions is only widening this gap.

The cost of an online masters degree will vary widely depending on academic institution. Don’t think that classes are simply more expensive the better the school. Some of the most expensive classes come from the schools with the poorest academic reputation. By choosing carefully  you can help minimize your educational debt load while still getting a good solid degree. There are some programs, like Harvard extension school, that offer excellent educational value at one of the lowest price points available.

As with everything in life, make sure you read the fine print. Some programs have a specific period of time in which they must be completed. If you see this. Time you may have to start over. For example a master’s degree from Harvard extension school requires a completion date within five years of being admitted to the program. If you go beyond the five-year period you must retake classes that are older than five years. This isn’t too big of deal but it can be a horrible surprise for someone who didn’t understand that at the beginning.
