The requirements to become a web designer all fall under the heading of knowing how to design a website. Although some jobs may require a specific level of education, there are others that are more focused on what you know rather than how you learned it. This is a job where what is most important is being able to show examples of your work and being able to replicate it.

That being said, having an education in web design is probably the best way to get a good job in this field. It will give you more credibility, for one thing. For another, there is so much out there to learn, it is probably the best way to be sure that you have all your bases covered.

Although web designing does require a good sense of aesthetics, there is much more to it. It is critical that the website is organized well. It needs to make sense and be easy for people to use. Consumers who goes to the website needs to be able to navigate through it easily and find the information they need, for example.

There are many different computer programs that you should learn to be a really good web designer. Although there are some applications that can be used to create websites fairly easily, at some point you will probably need to know languages such as HTML. There will also be cases where you want to create some content in one type of application to be used within the website you are designing.

Among the other types of applications you may need to use are ones for animation, photography, video and databases. Knowing how to create this type of content and then embed it in the website you are working on is an important skill. It is also one that will increase your marketability and enhance your starting salary for a web designer.
